Awareness session 8 - itSMF Malaysia attends ISACA Malaysia Annual Dinner

ISACA Malaysia hosted it’s annual dinner event in Modestos, Sri Hartamas, K.L. The event witnessed more than 60 members who attended.

Current President of the Malaysian Chapter, Jason Yuen, delivered a speech to thank all members who have participated in the annual events. ISACA M’sia is very active in organizing activities for it’s members. They conduct many social, educational, and member-based activities once in two months. They have an active membership base of around 500, and on average have 100-200 participants for most events. itSMF Malaysia certainly can learn, adopt the best practices from its senior chapters.

Chapter V.P. Ms Foo Mei Ling also mentioned that besides the
activities, they also give a lot of value back to the members – in the form of training, understanding of Information System Governance courses that enhances the members’ continuous education curve. Also, members contribute pro-actively to their monthly meetings, and give ideas how to grow the database by in the form of value –added volunteer work, and sustain the ISACA movement. As take up of Governance, IT Audit and Information Systems move from Auditors towards the domain of ICT more in the coming years, the relevance of CISA, CISM, and CGEIT are getting more important and play a high level influence in the governance, audit and decision –making process of senior management in the company.

On another note, it is worthy to know that there is a MOU between IT Service Management Forum International and Information Systems Audit and Control Association / IT Governance Institute (ISACA), which was drafted and approved in Apr 2007.

In the spirit of mutual benefit and interests that can be achieved due to the close level of processes whether related to best practices, or governance and audit is concerned, we at itSMF Malaysia have in our earlier chapter vision and mission strive forward to collaborate with many societies that will mutually benefit each other.

Among some value added activities will be:
1. Alignment to other governance-related organizations and focus their efforts on practical delivery support to the
global IT community for ITSM and for COBIT/Val IT.

2. Both organizations and their members could benefit from shared member benefits that might include discounted rates and special access to information and services provided by itSMFI and ISACA/ITGI.
